The fire resistance of Gorter’s largest fire-resistant wall hatch measuring 800 x 800 mm was recently tested according to EN 1634-1:2014. The test carried out under ISO 17025 accreditation was very successful, with the hatch more than meeting the set requirements. An official declaration can now be issued, and will apply not only at a national (previously associated with KOMO) but also a European level.

A wall hatch is not only an effective element which provides access to service ducts, switch panels or plenum spaces, but in a fire-resistant version also ensures full shielding in the event of a fire. Gorter fire-resistant hatches are very versatile and are used in non-residential and residential buildings as well as in industry.

Fire-resistance testing

The European standard specifies that the wall hatch must be tested in a full wall configuration. A practical situation was created at the testing body Efectis, in which the mutual influences of wall and wall hatch could be evaluated as a complete structure. The tests (according to EN 1634-1:2014) yielded the following classification results:

EI 1: 15 minutes

EI 2: 60 minutes

E : 120 minutes

EW: 120 minutes

In conjunction with the tests, a classification report on the construction materials and products according to EN 13501-2:2007+A1:2009 was also provided for the wall hatches concerned.
