CERN is a science company based in Switzerland, which helps to uncover what the universe is made of. Their mission is to provide a unique range of particle accelerator facilities to researchers; to advance the boundaries of human knowledge.

In the future they will operate from out a complete new building: the Science Gateway Building. This iconic building is designed by the architects Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), with support from Brodbeck-Roulet architectes associés. Doors of this amazing project will be opened 2023.

Zero carbon footprint

The CERN mission is to create a hub of scientific education and culture, to inspire younger generations with the beauty of science and technology. With the 7000 square meters CERN will offer a variety of spaces and activities, all connected by an enormous bridge 6 meters above ground. With more than 2.000 square meters of solar panels, this building will have a net zero carbon footprint.

Gorter RHTG glazed roof hatches

RPBW architects chose to place three Gorter® Glazed Roof Hatches at this new flagship project. A logical decision, concerning the fact that the entire structure of the RHTG9024 glazed roof hatch is thermally broken. Together with the HR+++ triple glass, there is a guarantee for the best insulation and energy cost savings. Official CE certifications prove an insulation value of Uw ≤ 0,83 W/(m².K). This way Gorter® delivers a perfect contribution to the energy efficiency ambitions of CERN.

Explosion vent RHTX for installation on roofs

Besides these three glazed roof hatches, the designers also chose four Gorter Explosion Vent Roof Hatches. These Gorter RHTEI7090 roof hatches have an Explosion Release Control (ERC): in case of unexpected pressure build up the hatch will unlock automatically.

Safety first!
